Mermaids Need Gems, Too

Back in the ’60s, my family moved from California, to Washington state. With us we brought my grandma and two teenage aunts, who we were rescuing from bad friends and gang members. Among those gang members was a guy who had a girlfriend. He gave her this ring (rumored to be an African Kunzite), and when they got into a big fight, she threw the ring off into the street and stomped it. My aunt picked it up, then gave it to me years later. I took it to a jeweler and had it straightened out and repaired. It’s not worth much but it has an interesting story, and probably looks better now on this mermaid than on some gang members angry girlfriend.
